Goodyear was established in 1917 with the purchase of 16,000 acres of land by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to cultivate cotton for vehicle tire threads. Goodyear became a town in November 1946 and reached city status in 1985. Goodyear was the third fastest-growing place among all cities and towns in Arizona from 1990-2000. The largest master planned community in Goodyear is Estrella,[3] south of the Gila River with over 2500 homes. Interstate 10 goes through Goodyear. And Goodyear has a small airport.

Goodyear is primarily a bedroom community, but it is known for being the home of baseball team’s spring training sessions. On April 7, 2008, Goodyear’s city council unanimously approved the funding of a new $33 million baseball spring training complex for Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians. This includes a 10,000-seat park, Goodyear Ballpark.
Goodyear has primarily single family homes for sale with a few town houses, no condo communities. Arizona Regional MLS showed single family homes in June, 2012 starting at $80,000 for a home built in 2008. Goodyear struggled with foreclosures and short sales, just like many other areas of the Phoenix area, and although prices are rebounding, there are still many good “real estate buys”
Builders are seeing more traffic at their new home construction sites in Goodyear. Estrella, a master planned community in southern Goodyear, has four new home builders, Maracay, Taylor Morrison, Wm Ryan Homes and Richmond American.
