Gold Canyon is a community made up of year round residents as well as seasonal ” winter visitors” who come to the Gold Canyon area to escape the snow and cold of the areas they call home. Gold Canyon today sees a number of Canadians and Europeans. Several award winning golf courses are located in the area. There are hiking trails as well as walking and biking paths.

The Apache Trail, also known as State Route 88 is a popular Arizona auto tour road. The Apache Trail begins just east of Gold Canyon and winds its way through the volcanic rock fields of the Superstitions Mountains. The trail passes popular tourist destinations  Goldfield Ghost Town, the Lost Dutchman State Park, Canyon Lake, Tortilla Flat, Apache Lake, and Lake Roosevelt. Dolly Steamboat is a sightseeing and lunch or dinner cruise sternwheeler boat that tours on Canyon Lake near Gold Canyon. The Superstition Mountain wilderness hiking area is located in the world famous mountain area. There are hundreds of miles of pristine wilderness and hiking trails.

There are Town homes and single family homes in the Gold Canyon community. Some of the areas are age restricted 55+ communities, such as Peralta Trails and Mountain Brook Village. Other areas, such as Hermosa Hills, Entrada Del Oro and Superstition Foothills have no age restrictions. There are currently no new home tract communities being built in Gold Canyon.
